Tom Helfrick
Controller
Tom Helfrick is the Controller at Nautilus Solar Energy, where he leads the accounting team responsible for financial reporting, internal controls, and external audits. His work supports Nautilus’s mission by ensuring financial accuracy and transparency across the organization.
Tom began his career in accounting at PwC before transitioning into the professional sports industry, where he gained valuable experience managing complex financial structures. In 2018, he brought his skills to the renewable energy sector, combining his professional expertise with his long-standing passion for sustainability. That passion dates back to his college years, when he helped launch and lead a student sustainability club, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to mission-driven work.
Known for his collaborative, consensus-driven leadership style, Tom brings approachability and balance to his work while setting high standards for his team. He earned his Certified Public Accountant license (inactive) in California and has passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a B.S. in Economics from UC Berkeley’s College of Letters and Sciences.
Outside the office, Tom enjoys coaching his children’s basketball, baseball, and soccer teams.
