Nautilus Solar Energy Responds to the Permanent Community Solar Law in Maryland
SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY (May 16, 2023)– Governor Wes Moore of Maryland signed HB 908 into law, making Maryland the 23rd state in the U.S. with a permanent community solar program. Community solar programs like this can help reduce energy costs for households, especially for low and moderate-income (LMI) families.
“We are thrilled to see the passage and signing of HB 908, creating a permanent community solar program in Maryland. As a leader in the Maryland community solar pilot program, Nautilus Solar is excited to continue working with our network of development partners to bring clean energy and financial savings to subscribers across Maryland,” said Eric Paul, Vice President of Development at Nautilus Solar Energy.
Eric LaMora, Executive Director of Community Solar at Nautilus Solar Energy, added, “With an early focus on providing LMI households with discounted solar energy, we are completely supportive of the 40% LMI requirement of the permanent community solar program. We hope to exceed that in our many future Maryland community solar projects.”
Nautilus was an early participant in Maryland’s community solar PILOT program including opening the state’s first project in Kingsville with 51% of the energy dedicated to the LMI community. The company currently owns and manages more than 85 MW of operational and late-stage development projects in the state, providing clean renewable power to tens of thousands of Marylanders. Nautilus partners closely with the communities to produce local tax revenue, bring new job opportunities and deliver energy savings to Marylanders. The company also supports local organizations and events like Navy men’s basketball and lacrosse, the Delmarva Shorebirds minor league baseball team, and Salisbury University athletics.
