Development Associate


Position Summary

Nautilus Solar Energy’s (“NSE”) Development Associate will support the development of community solar projects in the Mid-West. This position reports to the Executive Director of Structuring and is remote with a 25-50% travel requirement.



  • Monitor market regulations and policies and perform market analysis to inform development strategy
  • Manage project development including site identification and screening, site control negotiation, property tax optimization, permitting and interconnection
  • Engage with community members, local governments, abutters, and stakeholders to garner support for the project
  • Prepare presentations and educational materials and present to planning boards and other key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to optimize system design in accordance with all permits and approvals
  • Work with internal and external legal teams to complete title diligence and clear encumbrances
  • Manage development budgets and schedules
  • Management of external consultants, brokers and engineering firms as needed
  • Support Origination with project screening and provide development support as needed



  • Demonstrated track record of being a key team member involved in the development of solar or real estate projects
  • Experience with community engagement and development challenges including interconnection and permitting
  • Solid understanding and passion for the solar industry – familiarity with or proven track record in community solar, a strong plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrable ability to understand and communicate technical concepts
  • Excellent organizational abilities; able to focus on details while managing multiple projects
  • Able to excel in a highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of work experience preferred in the solar industry
  • Comfort working in a remote environment
  • Travel will be required
  • Legally entitled to work in the US
