Jim Rice is the CEO of Nautilus Solar Energy, LLC which he co-founded in December 2006. Under his leadership, Nautilus Solar has grown from a start-up to a leading solar company which has developed and managed over $400 million of solar projects. Jim is an energy industry professional with over 30 years of experience. During his career, he has operated, financed and invested in energy assets. Jim’s experience includes founding another energy company, leading Carlyle/Riverstone's power sector private equity efforts, and leadership positions at several major financial institutions.
Jim served his country as a nuclear-trained U.S. Naval Officer, and during that time, he spent over half of a year underwater, on strategic patrol, and he lead the refueling of a submarine’s nuclear reactor while in the shipyard. Laura E. Stern is the Co-founder and President of Nautilus Solar Energy, LLC. With over twenty years of project finance and power industry experience, Ms. Stern has sourced, structured and executed over $3 billion of power, energy and infrastructure investments. At BayernLB, she specialized in originating and structuring renewable energy debt financings, primarily in the wind sector. As a founding member of GMAC's project finance group, Ms. Stern sourced and closed senior debt financings for greenfield power development and acquisitions of distressed assets. Prior to that at CIBC, she structured and syndicated leveraged loans in the power sector as well as gaming and telecommunications. Ms. Stern began her career as a consultant with Price Waterhouse, advising the Philippine Government on the privatization of its power, water and wastewater sectors. She holds an AB with honors from Harvard University and a MA from the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies.
Ms. Stern was named one of the “Best 50 Women in Business” by NJ Biz in 2010 and is a frequent speaker at renewable energy and finance conferences. She was a founding Board Member of SunSpec Alliance.
She has been an Elected Director on the SEIA Board since January 2014, serving on the Finance Committee, Treasurer on the Executive Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Federal Policy Committee. Jeffrey Cheng, Chief Operating Officer. Jeffrey oversees Nautilus’s operations and business development initiatives and works closely with the executive team and Board on market positioning/strategy. Prior to Nautilus, Jeffrey was Chief Executive Officer of Stion Energy Services and lead Stion’s expansion into large commercial-scale project deployments and green field “utility-direct” solar developments. Before joining Stion, he was Managing Director of Project Finance at Regenesis Power, a solar developer focused on municipal and utility-scale solar projects. Previously, Jeffrey closed >$5B in financing and M&A transactions while holding executive management and senior investment banking positions within the technology industry. Jeffrey graduated with honors from the University of Southern California, holds a J.D. from Loyola Law School, and is a member of the New York State Bar. Marina Shapiro, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, brings ten years of progressive accounting and finance experience to Nautilus. Prior to joining Nautilus, Marina spent three years working as a controller in the renewable energy sector. Marina began her career with KPMG providing attestation and consulting services to both public and private companies. Scott Greenberg, Vice President, Operations, brings over 10 years of project design, construction, and operations in the power industry, 6 years specific to solar. Mr. Greenberg is responsible for the support of all technical aspects of PV solar management. Management tasks include performing solar site inspections; preparation of specifications, scope of work and bid documents; reviewing engineering documents/construction reports of specific projects; resolving installation problems and issues; and acting as the liaison between the solar integrator/EPC, roofing applicator, GC, consultant, architect and building owner during design/installation process. Prior to Nautilus, he was the Director of Operations at KDC Solar and previously served as SmartPlant Manager at Tetra Tech EC. Stefanie Padgett, Vice President Asset Management. Stefanie is responsible for Nautilus's Asset Management and Operations & Maintenance services. Stefanie brings to Nautilus a 14-year track record of success in O&M and sales of power products and services. She was most recently the Senior Sales Manager at First Solar, where she led both First Solar internal O&M sales as well as third party customers. Prior to that, she was at GE Power Conversion, where she led a global sales team, and at ABB, where she was responsible for utility accounts.
